Homeless, jobless and carless...that's what we are! We are sitting in our friend's living room in L.A. writing our first post on the road.
On Saturday, March 3rd, we drove away from our hometown of Denver. The week before hitting the road we rented our house and sold the '99 Mitsubishi Galant. Josh finally allowed me to remove that last hubcap!
Our U.S. road trip began on Saturday morning around 10:00 am with a fill-up one last time at the Safeway gas station. We were hitting the open road for Vegas but the road turned out to be not so open when we hit ski traffic at 10:45 am! We were leaving later to try to avoid this but Colorado just didn't want us to leave that fast.
While driving we started thinking about our $22 hotel room that awaited us in Vegas. That was not a typo, our hotel room was really only $22 with tax! We rolled into Vegas after 13 hours on the road. The Las Vegas Club & Casino welcomed us and we were pleasantly surprised that is was not terrible. For those of you interested in going to Vegas on the cheap keep this hotel in mind. It is located in old town Vegas across from the Golden Nugget. And yes, we did our routine bedbug check and this place was clean!
Next stop: Joshua Tree, California.
As we set out for Joshua Tree, we noticed a sign that stated "Hoover Dam - 13 miles" and we said "Why not?" We explored for an hour and then continued on our way to Joshua Tree.
After 4 hours of beautiful scenery down Route 66 we arrived in Joshua Tree National Park.
Our hotel for the night was the back of our truck! We woke up the next morning at 6:00 am. It's funny how you can wake up so early when you don't have to report to a job. No offense to our previous bosses!
We spent the day exploring this beautiful national park and then drove to L.A. to stay with friends for the next few days. We grabbed a romantic all-you-can-eat salad bar dinner at Sizzler. That's right, Sizzler! We were famished as we skipped lunch and this place was calling our names. It might as well been Morton's Steakhouse to Josh!
We won't be able to recap everyday like we did in this post but we will try to post at least once a week. For photos click on our link under the Photos tab on our home page.
Cheers,
Leanne and Josh
